Wilderness vies for kykNET’s Prestigious “Dorp van die Jaar 2025” title and you can help crown our Garden Route gem!

This year, kykNET’s beloved Kwêla – Dorp van die Jaar (Town of the Year) has returned, bringing national attention (and a whopping R2 million in cash and marketing support) to nine regional finalists across South Africa and Namibia. Of all the beautifull ‘dorpies’ in the Garden Route and Klein Karoo, Wilderness has proudly emerged as the Western Cape finalist, and here’s why it deserves your vote – and how to cast it.

🏆 How the competition works

  • Nomination phase: Running from early March to mid‑March, towns under 500 000 inhabitants were nominated via SMS.
  • Regional semifinals: Then in April, three towns per province competed in week‑long SMS voting.
  • Final round: On July 13 at 19:00, Kwêla showcased all nine finalists. Public voting then started and is open until July 18 at 12:00 – again via SMS, with a 30‑vote cap per number.

Why you should vote Wilderness

Wilderness – dramatic cliffs, ancient Outeniqua forests, and world-class beaches – captures the very essence of the Garden Route. It’s a paradise where winding waterways meet towering dunes and coastal fynbos blooms, offering serenity and adventure in equal measure. This unique blend of natural beauty, community pride, and tourism appeal makes it not only the ideal Western Cape champion, but a true Garden Route gem, deserving to shine!

  1. Open your SMS app.
