Framed by cliff-edged forests, dramatic gorges, and the wild coastline, Tsitsikamma (Storms River, Nature’s Valley and surrounding areas) hosts a small but thrilling annual calendar – perfect for adventurers, nature lovers, and festival-goers alike.
Glacier Storms River Traverse (early August)
Every year in early August, the Glacier Storms River Traverse brings a three-day mountain bike stage race to Storms River Village. With routes between 40–70 km and ocean and forest vistas at every turn, it’s designed for all skill levels – even multi-generational teams. The race village is family-friendly, complete with meals, kid zones and craft stalls, creating a festive, community-focused atmosphere.
Otter African Trail Run (late September to early October)
In late September or October, the Otter African Trail Run takes place in Tsitsikamma National Park, offering marathon-distance, ultra and shorter trail options along coastal fynbos and forested paths. The course is rugged and spectacular, with crossings over the Bloukrans River – this annual run is regarded as a highlight on South Africa’s trail calendar.
Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary Concerts (scattered dates)
The Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary hosts charity concerts under the stars raising awareness and support while showcasing sunset views over the Mountains.
Forest & Adventure Experiences (year-round)
While not seasonal festivals, the region thrives with regularly guided hikes – such as the Woodcutters’ Journey, Canopy Tours through the yellow-wood forest, and photographic scavenger hunts in Storms River Village. These eco-experiences often include local storytelling, birdwatching and team challenges in the indigenous forest.
