If you’re looking for a mountain biking adventure that combines breathtaking scenery, a challenging yet achievable route, and a strong sense of community, the Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge is a must.  Taking place on 27 September 2026, this iconic 100km race starts in Uniondale and winds its way through the historic Prince Alfred’s Pass to finish in the coastal town of Knysna.

The route offers a diverse mix of terrains, from the rugged beauty of the Karoo to lush river valleys and the famous Knysna forest near the coast. With a total ascent of 1,560 meters and a descent of 1,815 meters, it’s a true test of endurance that rewards you with stunning vistas and a sense of accomplishment.

The event is inclusive, welcoming mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes.  In fact, e-bike entries have tripled in recent years, and the race now offers a free battery swap service to keep you powered throughout the journey. Gravel bikers also have their own prize categories, ensuring everyone gets a fair shot at glory.
