If you’re looking for things to do in George, let me introduce you to a place that completely surprised me.
For years, I thought Redberry Farm was simply a strawberry farm.
It turns out it’s one of the most enjoyable family attractions in George — and one of those places that quietly brings out your inner child.
Why Redberry Farm is One of the Best Family Activities in George
Not having children of my own comes with a small but wonderful luxury: I get to enjoy other people’s kids when I feel like it. My friends’ children. My sister’s children. And when I spend time with them, the child in me happily shows up too.
So when a friend reunited with her boarding-school daughter for a Saturday in George, Redberry Farm was the perfect choice.
Located just a few kilometres from George Airport and close to Fancourt, this working strawberry farm has evolved into one of the Garden Route’s most versatile attractions.
And it’s far more than just strawberries.
The Famous Hedge Maze at Redberry Farm
One of the standout activities — and easily one of the most fun things to do in George — is the giant hedge maze.
This isn’t a simple garden path. The maze is grown from tall hedges, high enough that you can’t see over them. Thankfully, they’re not so dense that you feel claustrophobic.
At the entrance, we were given a challenge card. The mission? Find seven hidden stations scattered throughout the maze. Each station shares information about the strawberry industry and stamps your card with a unique mark.
With three of us navigating (and none of us particularly gifted at direction), chaos followed.
We:
- Followed strangers (risky move)
- Braved something ominously called the “Tunnel of Doom”
- Accidentally found the exit too early
- Climbed the viewing platform to get our bearings
In the end, we located six out of seven stations.
No official victory.
But a lot of laughter — and that counts.
Strawberry Picking in George
During strawberry season, Redberry Farm allows visitors to pick their own strawberries straight from the fields — one of the most popular seasonal activities in George.
Ironically, my friend doesn’t like strawberries, so we skipped the picking this time.
Which simply means I’ll have to return. With other friends, and kids.
